USQ staff named in who's who list
Two USQ staff members were named among the most eminent people in the state at the launch of the inaugural edition of Who's Who in Queensland on Friday 25 May 2007.
USQ Senior Law Lecturer, Dr Anthony Gray, and USQ Manager of Careers and Employment, Mr Peter McIlveen, were listed in the publication alongside swimmer Libby Lenton and 2006 Australian of the Year Professor Ian Frazer.
Premier Peter Beattie MP launched the new publication, and said it lists Queenslanders who have contributed to the development of the state.
'Queensland has been shaped by many extraordinary individuals. Our states ‘who's who' are big thinkers and big dreamers, experts in their field and the best at their game.
'They are committed, passionate and determined to make a real difference to the lives of others. They have created an environment of excellence, an incubator for new ideas and major discoveries.
'I welcome the inaugural edition of Who's Who in Queensland – a celebration of our great people,' Premier Beattie said.
Springfield campus lecturer Dr Gray is helping develop USQ's new law degree and said being listed in the publication was an honour, adding that he was surprised by the acknowledgment.
'I received a letter last week notifying me that I would be included in the publication, and I was very surprised because I wasn't even aware that I had been nominated. I had no idea!'
Dr Gray has published a number of papers on controversial issues such as Industrial Relations (IR) reform and the rights of accused people during his time at the University.
He has also been heavily involved in community education programs.
'I think that all people should be aware of their rights and responsibilities and I have worked within the community and schools to help promote this.
'It's nice to think that someone has recognised that I have done something worthwhile.'
Peter McIlveen was also included in the list and said he enjoyed working in Toowoomba and could conduct an internationally oriented career living in Queensland.
