Six Citations for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning have been awarded to staff of the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) by the Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC).
Recognising diverse contributions of individuals and teams to quality student learning the Citations are awarded to staff from Universities throughout Australia.
USQ Vice-Chancellor Professor Bill Lovegrove said he was proud of the achievements of the University's citation recipients.
'I congratulate the citation winners for their dedication to students' learning,' Professor Lovegrove said.
'These awards recognise their hard work and acknowledge the diversity of projects undertaken to improve student learning experiences at USQ.'
Citation recipients included the Mount Kent Observatory Team that received a citation for developing a specialised astronomy facility that engages students through practical and interactive experiences regardless of location.
Mrs Kim Southey, Ms Bernadette Lynch and Mrs Shalene Werth received a citation for incorporating strategies to mentor undergraduate business students in their transition to University.
Mrs Patricia Cretchley was acknowledged for her passionate teaching and research into learning to advance mathematics students' enjoyment and learning.
Dr John Dearnaley was recognised for his work in bridging the gap between the classroom and natural world in plant biology to foster life-long learning in plant biology.
Associate Professor Sharyn Rundle-Thiele received a citation for a decade of experiential learning and teaching that has transformed students' learning in marketing.
Professor David Dowling was acknowledged for his sustained leadership in using graduate attributes to enhance students' learning and achievement of career goals.
Recipients were presented with their awards at a ceremony held at Customs House in Brisbane on Monday, 4 August 2008.
