Reach your goals through USQ coaching clinic

Do you have some goals you'd like to achieve but you never seem to quite ‘get there'? The University of Southern Queensland (USQ) Springfield campus may have the answer.

The University's Psychology department is inviting people in the local community to take part in a coaching clinic offered by 3rd year psychology students as part of their professional training.

This is the first program of its kind in Brisbane, and will be run under the supervision of senior psychology staff.

USQ Lecturer Dr Kate Lemerle said the program is aimed at helping participants achieve clarity and confidence to work through issues holding them back from reaching goals and achieving the life they want.

'We all face challenges to making our dreams a reality, sometimes due to lack of confidence or motivation, sometimes because of lack of support and sometimes because we don't know what we really want,' Dr Lemerle said.

'Our trainee coaches will work with participants to help them clarify their goals and set a path forward, steering them to achieve the outcomes they want. The goals our participants want to work on could be work, sport, health or personal life related. All that is required from the successful participants is a commitment to six, one hour sessions at times arranged to suit them.'

Dr Lemerle said the coaching clinics were free to all participants who meet the screening criteria. Those who don't will be given advice about other services that could be more suitable.

'Because the coaches are still completing their training, we will be screening all applicants in order to get the best possible match between clients and coaches, and providing ongoing supervision of the students each week. All sessions will be digitally recorded so the trainee coaches can review their sessions to help them refine their coaching skills.

'During the first session, participants will work with trainee coaches to identify their goal/s and work out a plan of action that takes into account their own unique circumstances.

'The next four sessions (usually at weekly intervals), will be spent putting their plans into action and learning better ways for reaching the targets they have set. Our aim is to give the participants tools they can use for creating a more positive future.'

If you would like to apply to participate in the USQ Coaching Clinic Program, phone Dr Kate Lemerle on +61 7 3470 4498 by Friday, 22 August to arrange a screening interview.
