Science and Education graduations

 

More than 550 students from the University of Southern Queensland's (USQ) Sciences and Education Faculties will celebrate the culmination of years of hard work during the Autumn graduations. 

Education students will graduate during the morning ceremony and will hear from guest speaker Deborah Tranter. Ms Tranter is the Director of Queensland Museum Regional Services and has been the Director of the Cobb and Co Museum since 1987.

She is a member of the National Cultural Heritage Committee and has had a long involvement in many state and regional heritage, education, tourism, economic development and training organisations.

Ms Tranter was awarded a Churchill Fellowship in 1993 and in 2000 she was awarded an OAM for her services to cultural heritage and cultural tourism in regional Queensland.

During the afternoon ceremony students from the Sciences Faculty will hear from guest speaker Associate Professor Bob Beeton. Mr Beeton is a lecturer at the University of Queensland and is currently the Chair of the Australian Threatened Species Scientific Committee.

Mr Beeton's research interests include environmental problem solving, and sustainability issues associated with natural and rural systems and rural and regional communities.

Since 1992 Mr Beeton has secured 1.3 million dollars in research grants, published numerous papers and supervised more than 30 postgraduate students.
