Prominent accounting firm offers cadetships to USQ students

Year 12 students planning to apply to study the Bachelor of Accounting and Sustainable Business (BASB) at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) are now eligible to apply for a cadetship with international accounting firm Grant Thornton.

As part of an agreement between the University and Grant Thornton, Year 12 students who expect to successfully complete their secondary studies and undertake the BASB will be able to apply for the cadetship directly to the accounting firm.

Head of the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance, Professor Peter Best said Grant Thornton is a leading national accounting firm in Australia and an employer of a large number of accounting staff.

'Grant Thornton member firms, both in Australia and internationally, provide a wide range of audit, taxation consulting, business consulting, business recovery, financial advisory and accounting services to clients in both commercial and government institutions,' Professor Best said.

'Students selected to undertake a cadetship with Grant Thornton will be presented with an enormous head start to launch their careers.

'The cadetship will offer them the opportunity to gain practical experience whilst studying their degree at USQ.

'Cadets will be given the opportunity to take on as much responsibility as they can handle in a personal, professional environment, and working alongside a highly respected team of professionals.

'They will also have access to a national and international network of resources and opportunities to achieve personal and career growth in a supportive, coaching environment where people are valued.'

Professor Best said the firm were looking for students with a strong academic record, developed interpersonal skills, wide outside interests and ideally some relevant work experience.

General Manager of Grant Thornton Larn Mulligan said they were pleased to offer the cadetship to USQ BASB students.

'USQ's Bachelor of Accounting and Sustainable Business is an innovative and timely program to address the shortage of accountants with knowledge and skills to meet the needs of organisations to strategically manage and report their environmental and social impacts,' Mr Mulligan said.

Potential candidates apply directly to Grant Thornton at www.grantthornton.com.au.

Those who are short listed will attend an initial one-on-one interview and if successful attend an information session and complete a short general aptitude test and second round interview.
