Mature age student Kathy Glynn will be one of the many students attending the University of Southern Queensland's (USQ) inaugural School of Law Welcome Reception on Monday 3 March 2008.
This is the first year that USQ has offered the law program, and as part of orientation week will host a lunch and information session where students will get the opportunity to meet lecturers and familiarise themselves with the University.
38 year old trainee lawyer, Kathy Glynn, completed a commerce degree last year and has enrolled in the Juris Doctor. After years of working in recruitment Kathy said she decided to follow her dream of being a lawyer and is looking forward to meeting teaching staff on Monday.
'I think this is a great opportunity to meet my lecturers and the students I will be studying alongside of.
'I have always wanted to study law so I thought if I completed a commerce degree in business law I would see if I really loved it.
'When I heard that USQ was going to offer law I think I was so excited that I was the first person to enrol. I have already started reading!'
Students are invited to attend ‘meet and greet' sessions, a library tour with USQ's law librarian and a lunch that has been sponsored by local law firm Wonderley and Hall Solicitors.
Head of the School of Law, Professor Geraldine Mackenzie said enrolments in both the undergraduate and postgraduate programs had exceeded their expectations.
'We are thrilled with the overwhelming response we have received for both the Bachelor of Laws and the Juris Doctor programs,' Prof Mackenzie said.
'We look forward to meeting our new students at our law welcome reception and information sessions on Monday.'
