University to host Indigenous seminar

The University of Southern Queensland (USQ) launched its inaugural Learning and Teaching week yesterday, and as part of the activities USQ will hold an Indigenising the Curriculum seminar on Wednesday 20 February.

During the day long seminar presenters from the University of South Australia will discuss the importance of integrating Indigenous content into undergraduate programs.

Rhonda Hagan from USQ's Learning and Teaching Support Unit (LTSU) said the seminar will discuss the benefits of embedding Indigenous perspectives in to the curriculum as well as sharing a framework to assist in developing content and teaching strategies.

'This seminar will hopefully encourage academic staff members at USQ who are interested in incorporating Indigenous perspectives, but are not sure how to actually do it.'

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Learning and Teaching), Professor Lynne Hunt, said USQ endeavoured to create an innovative and holistic learning experience for students.

'We have decided to hold this week to profile the high standard of teaching at USQ and to share information across the whole university.

'USQ is putting considerable money and resources into teaching so that students have the best possible learning experiences,' Professor Hunt said.

'Students are at the heart of USQ planning.'

During the week staff will have the opportunity to explore USQ's new technology enhanced learning and multimedia facilities.

The event will be held across all three of the University's campuses annually, and will commence at the start of each academic year.
