Exciting New Ensemble for Toowoomba
Music lovers will be delighted to see the return of acclaimed pianist, Dr Marilyn Meier-Kapavale to the spotlight at the University of Southern Queensland's next Twilight Recital.
Marilyn, Martin Crook (clarinet) and Matthew Kinmont (cello) have joined forces to form the University's all-new piano, clarinet and cello ensemble.
Described as one of Australia's leading contemporary pianists, Marilyn along with fellow USQ Lecturer and consummate clarinettist, Martin Crook and Associate Principal Cellist with the Queensland Orchestra, Matthew Kinmont are Ensemble A250.
Each accomplished musicians in their own right, the trio is an exciting new arrangement on Toowoomba's musical horizon.
The Ensemble will perform two outstanding masterworks; Debussy's Sonata for Cello and Piano and Brahms' Trio in A minor.
The Cello Sonata was the first of a planned series of 'Six sonates pour divers instruments', however Debussy only completed two others, the sonata for violin and the sonata for flute, viola and harp.
'The Brahms is a new work for me, and I performed the Debussy in April for the first time – they are both very interesting and musically challenging pieces,' said Marilyn.
Audiences will remember Marilyn from her sell-out solo recital earlier this year and Martin is well-know for his association with the Ergon Energy USQ Big Band.
'I have not often had the opportunity to perform in this combination before but it's an exciting prospect especially performing with these two gentlemen. They are lovely to work with and both have very good senses of humour!'
The West-Star Motors Twilight Ensemble Recital commences at 6pm in the USQ Arts Theatre on Wednesday 13 August.
Tickets to the recital are $16.50 for adults, $13.50 concession and $6 for primary and secondary school students. The ticket price also includes the chance to enjoy a glass of bubbly with the artists after the performance.
