USQ welcomes students for O Week
Traditional ‘stalls day', live bands and pizza eating competitions are just three of the activities planned during the University of Southern Queensland's annual ‘O Week' celebrations.
Cathy Jacobs from the USQ Student Guild said each of the USQ campuses at Toowoomba, Springfield and Fraser Coast would get into the spirit of O Week before classes commenced.
'Orientation is the time to meet fellow students, lecturers and other USQ staff as students start their journey of discovery.' Cathy said.
'I would recommend for new students to attend as many of the planned activities as possible.
'It is the perfect opportunity for them to mix with staff, see the campus and spend some time at the University in a relaxed atmosphere.
'Each campus has entertainment, activities and games planned, so it should be a lot of fun.'
Cathy said USQ would also hold Regional Orientation Meetings across eastern Australia for all external students.
'The meetings are designed to provide practical advice on how to succeed in distance learning and to answer any questions students may have.
'They also provide the opportunity for students to meet USQ staff and other students in their region studying at USQ.
'The Regional Orientation Meetings will take place in Bundaberg, Cairns, Canberra, Dalby, Emerald, Fraser Coast, Gladstone, Lismore, Melbourne, Redcliffe, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast, Sydney, Toowoomba, Townsville, Warwick and Brisbane.'
USQ Vice Chancellor, Professor Bill Lovegrove said orientation would give students the opportunity to meet staff and other students and learn about the services and opportunities on offer at the University.
'University can be a pretty daunting experience when you first arrive, but O Week is specifically designed to make this adjustment as easy as possible.
'Traditionally O Week is a lot of fun and I hope students enjoy themselves responsibly.'
USQ O Week activities will run at Toowoomba campus from Sunday 24 February, at Springfield campus from Wednesday 27 February and at Fraser Coast campus from Monday 25 February.
