The education class of 1978 reunite

They rocked in the refectory to the likes of Jimmy Barnes and the Skyhooks, and now the education class of 1978 is preparing to party once again as they celebrate their 30 year reunion later this month.

Five past students teamed up and have been working hard to organise the reunion that will be held at the Toowoomba Campus on Saturday 27 September.

Along with the formal reunion a number of pre and post event activities have been organised including a Friday night social gathering at the Southern Hotel as well as a recovery brunch at Gold Park on the Sunday.

Reunion Committee member Jo Brealey said they had a fantastic time studying (and partying) at USQ, and commented on the technological changes that have occurred in the past 30 years.

'The only place you could get anything to eat was the Refec, and the vending machines outside the Refec. There were no International students (that we knew about), no mobile phones, no computers – just a few public phones.

'There was a computer room in the library, but we got only one lesson there and I don't remember even touching a computer in there!'

The official reunion will be opened by former Faculty of Education Dean Ken Imison and will then move onto drinks in the Japanese Garden and followed by a meal at the Uni Club.

'We are still trying to track down all the members of the 1978 Faculty of Education class,' said Jo.

If you were part of this group or attended classes with this group and would like to attend the reunion please contact USQ at alumni@usq.edu.au or 07 4636 6306.
