USQ Vice-Chancellor reappointed for another term
'Directing a period of renewed growth,' is how University of Southern Queensland (USQ) Chancellor Mrs Bobbie Brazil described the reappointment of Professor Bill Lovegrove as University Vice-Chancellor.
Professor Lovegrove this week accepted a further four year appointment to his position which takes direct responsibility for leading and overseeing the university's 26 000 Australian and international students.
The Chancellor said the USQ Council had endorsed the continuation of Professor Lovegrove's position to help lead the university through its next period and administer the university's $180 million annual budget.
Having effectively managed the largest and most comprehensive review the university had ever undertaken through the Realising our Potential (RoP) project, the Chancellor said it was important to continue to build on that base to ensure USQ's continued success.
In what is an increasingly challenging and competitive University environment with Government funding failing to keep pace with increasing costs, Professor Lovegrove's knowledge and experience in the sector combined with his commitment to student success will be important to the ongoing achievements of USQ.
Since Professor Lovegrove was appointed as Vice-Chancellor in October 2003, USQ has strengthened its three campuses at Toowoomba, Springfield and Fraser Coast as well as its "virtual" campus across the globe.
'Under his leadership the University's reputation as an international leader in e-learning and distance education has developed further with the university now working with international education partners in more than 15 countries worldwide', the Chancellor said.
'Continuing the development of an open and flexible environment that caters for a diverse student population has been one of the characteristics of Professor Lovegrove's tenure as Vice-Chancellor,'Mrs Brazil said.
At its August meeting, the USQ Council endorsed a new strategic plan which focuses on open and flexible learning and sustainability in research, teaching and its own operations. The plan will see the University building on its traditional strength of providing the highest quality educational experience to students irrespective of their location or lifestyle.
With more than 30 years of experience in higher education Professor Lovegrove is also an internationally renowned researcher into children with dyslexia and a highly respected member of the Australian Higher Education sector.
