USQ hosts Western Corridor Summit

USQ Springfield campus has issued an invitation to residents and stakeholders of the Western Corridor to attend a Summit to present ideas and thoughts on the future directions of the region on 28 June 2008.

Participation in the Western Corridor Summit is open to those situated within the western corridor, which extends generally from Wacol through Ipswich City to Amberley and Marburg and includes Ebenezer, Swanbank, Ripley Valley and Springfield.

An initiative of the Faculty of Business, the Western Corridor Summit will follow the recent 2020 Summit process and provide an avenue for those with an interest in the area to contribute to developing a vision for the region in a number of key areas including:

  • transport, facilities and sustainability;
  • education, training, skills and innovation;
  • communities, families and social inclusion; and,
  • health, housing, well being and recreation.

Faculty of Business Lecturer Mustafa Ally said the western corridor is a key feature of the South East Queensland Regional Plan and would be undergoing many changes in the coming years.

'Delegates attending the Summit will be divided into groups and with the aid of an appointed facilitator will focus on one of the four areas.

'The outcomes of the Summit will be presented as a report to regional decision makers to use in their planning for the future,' Mr Ally said.
