Helen Weston is testament that being a woman in business is probably one of your greatest assets.  As owner of Mobile Rehab – Community Physiotherapy, mother to four primary school-aged children, two of whom are twins, and married to British basket-baller, Nick Cooke, Helen has taken a simple business idea and turned it into a highly profitable enterprise that allows her to live life fully.

Helen has been invited by Kym Briese, of Briese Lawyers, to be the keynote speaker at the Inaugural Women in Business Seminar to be held on Monday 24 November, at USQ.  The Seminar is aimed at women who are either thinking about starting a business or who are already in business.

‘We want to invite all women who have even the seed of an idea,' said Kym Briese.  ‘The timing is perfect for women who want to get information on their business idea so that they can think it through over Christmas in time for a New Year start.  Helen is a very dynamic and inspirational speaker.  Her journey into business is far from conventional.'

Helen has built a thriving business that allows both her, and her staff, the flexibility of working hours that fit in and around family commitments.  When Helen first began the business in 1996, she was already pregnant with twins.  It took 3 years before the business really began to grow.

As far as work was concerned, Helen didn't know what she wanted to do.  ‘It was more of an idea about what I didn't want to do – rather than a clear idea of what I wanted to do.  That all came a bit later.'

Originally the business started from Nick and Helen's garage at Wilston, Brisbane.  Now the business includes 50 staff and business contracts throughout SE Queensland.

‘With more than 32% of women already in business, and that figure rising, there is a strong need for support for these women,' Kym added.  ‘We're looking to provide women with links to expert advice on business planning, finance, accounting, insurance and marketing.'

‘We're very pleased to have the support of USQ's Faculty of Business and Mary Ryan Bookshop, Toowoomba with this seminar.  It's important for anyone in business to be knowledgeable and willing to look for the latest information so that the can plan for staying in business for the long term.'

'In turn, we are pleased to be able to support the Breast Cancer Council Research.  Being in business means that a woman has to take care of her well-being and health.  This is certainly an aspect that we are very keen to promote.'
