Queensland Treasurer to address Toowoomba business community

The Honourable Andrew Fraser
will address the Toowoomba business
community this week

Budget incentives for the Garden City and the Government’s financial commitment to the flood-affected region will be high on the agenda for discussion when the Queensland Treasurer visits Toowoomba this Friday 13 May.

The Honourable Andrew Fraser MP will address local business people, politicians, media representatives and USQ academics during the Regional Business Leaders’ Economic Forum at Picnic Point.

USQ Faculty of Business and Law Dean, Professor Allan Layton, said the event was attracting widespread interest.

'With the Commonwealth Budget due to be released this week, Mr Fraser’s visit to the region will give local business people the opportunity to learn more about the economic developments planned for this region,' Professor Layton said.

'The Treasurer’s speech will also address the broader economic and fiscal challenges facing the State, and reiterate the Government’s commitment to rebuilding and revitalising regions such as the Lockyer Valley.'

Mr Fraser will also discuss the Government’s developing partnership with the University in relation to water management and agriculture.

The Regional Business Leaders Forum is an annual event that stems from a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between USQ and the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2009. Last year, the guest speaker at the forum was the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia, Mr Glenn Stevens.

The luncheon runs from 11.30am until 2pm on Friday 13 May at Picnic Point, Toowoomba. Tickets are limited and cost $60 for Chamber members and $80 for non-members. To register, please visit the Empire Theatre website: www.empiretheatre.com.au or call 1300 655 299. Registrations close on Thursday 12 May at 5pm.
