Qld Treasurer shares optimism for future

Mr Fraser predicted a bright future
for Queensland during the forum

It may have been Black Friday, but the Queensland Treasurer presented a positive outlook on the Garden City’s financial future during the Regional Business Leaders’ Economic Forum in Toowoomba on Friday, 13 May.

Addressing the local business community, politicians, media representatives and USQ academics, the Honourable Andrew Fraser MP said that despite natural disasters having had a 'massive effect' on the State’s economy, the future seemed bright.

'There is a great deal of optimism for the future,' Mr Fraser said.

He also examined the broader economic and fiscal challenges facing the State, such as the rising value of the Australian dollar and mining production.

USQ Faculty of Business and Law Dean, Professor Allan Layton, said Mr Fraser’s visit to the region gave local business people the opportunity to learn more about the economic developments planned for the region.

'Mr Fraser also reiterated the Government's commitment to rebuilding and revitalising regions such as the Lockyer Valley,' Professor Layton said.

The Regional Business Leader’s Forum is held in Toowoomba annually and stems from a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between USQ and the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
