USQ student meets NASA astronaut
It’s not every day that you get to meet history makers, but USQ student, Mr David Fredericks did just that.

NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) Astronaut, Dr Andy Thomas was on hand at the Engineers Australia Corporate Lunch on 5 August to give a presentation.
Mr Fredericks was one of 200 guests and was lucky enough to meet Dr Thomas.
“Andy was very approachable and I was quite excited to meet him,” said Mr Fredericks.
“My long term goal is to work for NASA to so to meet Andy was quite thrilling.”
To fulfil that life goal, Mr Fredericks plans to complete his Bachelor of Science in Physical Sciences and Mathematics and also plans to complete a PhD at USQ in Astrophysics.
“I shook Dr Thomas’ hand and we had a friendly conversation which has definitely encouraged me to follow my dream of working for NASA.”
Dr Thomas commenced working with NASA in 1992 completing his first space mission in 1996.
He has completed 177 days in space, most recently in 2005 when he served on the STS-114 Discovery mission.
