PR student gets into print

Angie Lowe will never forget the newspaper article about a puppy that had to be put to sleep.
It’s not because it was a sad and moving story, but because the article was her first printed work.
Angie wrote the story while doing work experience in the Fraser Coast Regional Council’s corporate communications department at Hervey Bay. The placement is part of her final course to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations and Communication and Media Studies at USQ.
'I was stoked to see my story in print,' Angie, 27, said.
'It was pretty much the same as what I’d written. After that I had another story printed. It was about a pup which was put up for adoption. It was fun writing up that one.'
The former Hervey Bay High student has been studying part-time over the past five years. During that time she spent a year in New Zealand working for a marketing company at Nelson on the South Island.
She said the job involved a lot of administration work, although she did get to try her hand at some writing. Unfortunately there wasn’t much opportunity to make it into print.
But it’s a different story at the council. Angie is getting plenty of experience writing and much of it will be printed.
Her work includes tourism stories and general media releases.
