Springfield community ANZAC Day service
The Springfield Community ANZAC Day Service will be held at USQ Springfield
|
USQ Springfield campus will host a service to commemorate ANZAC Day on Saturday 25 April 2011 at 5.45am.
USQ Springfield Director Doug Fraser said ANZAC Day is probably Australia’s most important national occasion.
'It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War,' Mr Fraser said.
'ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps and the soldiers in these forces quickly become known as ANZAC’s. The pride they soon took in that name endures to this day.
'To commemorate the sacrifice the soldiers made for Australia, USQ Springfield campus will host the 2011 Springfield Community ANZAC Day Service.
'As in previous years, it will be attended by students from local schools, USQ staff and students and members of the surrounding community.
'Attendees are encouraged to wear service medals awarded to them personally or their forebears.'
