Fun and fashion at the Races

Tracking the Arts Race Day will be
held in October

Whether you follow the form, delight at the chance to dress up and put on a hat, or just love a great day out with friends, the USQ Artsworx ‘Tracking the Arts’ Race Day is the day for you.

Billed as an ‘arty day at the races’, the event features a full afternoon of racing complemented by live entertainment by local jazz ensemble, Swing on In; costume parade presented by USQ Designer, Carolyn Taylor-Smith; and both live and silent auctions.

Race Day organisers have sourced an excellent selection of collectable items for the auctions including original artworks by notable Australian artists Donald James Waters, Charles Sluga and Arone Meeks, stunning jewellery pieces, and sporting memorabilia.

Other items are sure to appeal to a range of people including thrill seekers who would jump at the chance to take a joy flight, a spin in a V8 supercar or a day of sailing; the fashion conscious who would love a session with a fashion stylist or a new hat by local milliner, Rae Copeland; or those who just want to kick-back with a relaxing holiday, pamper pack or a glass of Moet.

True to race day tradition, fashions on the field will be judged and prizes awarded to best-dressed lady, best dressed man and best hat.
Hosted by USQ Chancellor, Bobbie Brazil and the Brazil Family and sponsored by Credit Union Australia (CUA) and Artshop Fine Custom Picture Framing, the ‘Tracking the Arts’ Race Day is the primary fundraising activity for USQ Artsworx.

'Artsworx strives to deliver a range of high quality and innovative arts experiences to the local and wider community which publicly showcase the skills and talents of emerging artists from the Faculty of Arts, but as a not-for-profit organisation, we are continually faced with the challenges of mounting a comprehensive season with limited resources,' manager, Dr Rebecca Scollen, said.

'Proceeds from the day will go directly towards the 2011 season assisting in the production of such events as the annual Shakespeare in the Park Festival, McGregor Schools, Twilight Series and Children's Festival.'

The Tracking the Arts Race Day commences at 3 for 3.30pm on Saturday 9 October in the Grand Marquee at Clifford Park.

Tickets are $60 each or $550 for tables of ten and include complimentary drink on arrival, delicious 2-course meal and a ticket in the lucky door prize.

Bookings can be made through the USQ Artsworx Box Office on 07 4631 1111.
