USQ leadership endorsed by national quality audit
USQ Vice Chancellor Professor Bill Lovegrove |
A clear vision, a strategic outlook and strategies for success are some of the key highlights from a national benchmarking audit undertaken recently at USQ.
The audit carried out by the Australian Universities Quality Agency (
AQUA) earlier this year involved a comprehensive evaluation of the University’s progress since its last review in 2002, as well as an assessment of its current learning and teaching strategies for the delivery of its degree and international education programs.
In one of its key findings AUQA commended the University on its strong leadership and its ongoing commitment to continuous improvement through the strategic direction of the USQ Council and senior management.

Professor Bill Lovegrove welcomed the report saying it reflected the hard work undertaken by staff to enhance further the quality of the University.
AUQA was also especially impressed with the learning and teaching practices of USQ and how these had a significant positive impact on a student’s experience at the University.
The report also commended USQ on its student assessment practices and the specialist training given in these areas to its overseas partners.
AUQA also praised USQ for developing an integrated approach to open and flexible education and for its initiatives in developing learning and teaching support programs for students.
A commendation was also given to USQ on its international education initiatives to improve its education partnerships through the use of a streamlined application process for overseas students. The panel was also impressed with the productive working relationships USQ has established with its international education partners.
Professor Lovegrove particularly welcomed the audit panel’s commendation for the University’s foresight in taking on wide scale academic structural reforms under the Realising Our Potential project completed last year.
Other areas that received commendations from AUQA included USQ’s success in the development and implementation of an integrated portfolio of student services and its initiatives for creating and supporting innovative teaching programmes.
While the report gave high praise to the University’s efforts in these areas, it also put forward some recommendations for future improvement in the University in specific operational areas.
Professor Lovegrove said the report from the AUQA review panel further endorses the University’s commitment to higher education and to its regions through the development and implementation of high quality degree programs.
'Over the past few years we have been working hard to improve the quality of our student experience and the attractiveness of our degrees and the report from the Australian Universities Quality Agency is evidence we are succeeding.'
