Awards to recognise innovative women
Founder and Managing Director of growthcurv, a business which promotes personal growth and leadership development, Pamela Young, will provide the keynote address at the Best of the WEST Awards at USQ Toowoomba today (Thursday 13 October 2011).
An initiative of the project team of Go WEST (Women in Engineering, Science and Technology), the annual awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of outstanding and innovative women and girls who are leading in the fields of engineering, science and technology.
This year the project is also sponsoring a workshop/seminar preceding the awards to identify the challenges of being successful in male dominated industry or career.
The Being Successful as Women in Engineering, Science and Technology will be facilitated by Pamela Young and is open to men and women who are in, or plan to be in, a non-traditional industry. Business managers, staff and owners are also welcome to attend.
The award ceremony will commence with high tea in the Allison Dickson Lecture Theatre Foyer and is timed to align with the availability of school-aged attendees.
USQ Chancellor, Ms Bobbie Brazil, will address the ceremony and announce the winners in the 15 award categories.
GOWEST member, Petrea Redmond, says the Awards give women in the fields of Engineering, Science (including Maths) and Technology (SET) public recognition for the work they are doing and also shows women and girls there are many fulfilling career choices in these areas.
'There was a great response to these awards from the community last year and we are looking forward to another terrific event this year.'
