Billy cart enthusiasts brave rain

Results are in for the 2nd Annual Springfield Community Billy Cart Races |
Even continuous rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of billy cart teams as they headed to USQ
Springfield on Father’s Day (Sunday, 2 August) for the 2nd Annual Springfield Community Billy Cart Races.
More than 37 entrants braved the elements to race in two categories of racing: Flash Harry’s, a 200 metre race for competitors aged 10 years and over racing in specialised, technically constructed carts and the Delfin Dare Devil, a 50 metre race open to any age and almost any type of home-made cart.
The event was coordinated by the USQ
Springfield campus in partnership with Ipswich City Council and took place on Sinnathamby Boulevard.
Event coordinator Megan Axelsen said every registered competitor turned out to race even with inclement weather throughout the day.
'I think the Dad’s had even more fun than the children, their faces were a mask of sheer joy,' she said.
'It was wonderful to see so much work put into the billy carts and to see families working so closely together to create something.'
Dr Axelsen said all competitors put forth a fantastic effort on the day and all came out winners in the end.
