The bright pair said they were aiming for good grades, but both admit it was a shock to learn they had received such outstanding results.
There was no confusion though, when it came to selecting which university they would study at, both Adam and Tammy said USQ was their first preference.
Former Toowoomba St Mary’s College student and OP1 recipient, Adam Liesch will commence a Bachelor of Commerce this year, and said it has been an interest of his since Year 8.
‘I did the accounting course at USQ through its Headstart program, and I really enjoyed it so I just thought I’d keep studying at USQ,’ Adam said.
Recent flooding events couldn’t dampen the spirits of former Toowoomba High Student and OP2 recipient, Tammy Forbes.
The local Withcott resident said she and her family were isolated for days and without electricity for almost a week after the extreme rain a fortnight ago.
In spite of this, Tammy said she is extremely proud to be a part of the local Withcott community, and is excited to be able to study at a university close to home.
‘I have had involvement with USQ because of going to school in Toowoomba- everyone always seemed so upbeat and positive and kind- it was an easy decision to make,’ she said.
Despite receiving a score that would see her accepted into any university in the State, the promising young teacher said she had always planned to study at USQ.
‘I didn’t see any point in moving to Brisbane when everything was right on my door step.
‘I wasn’t expecting an OP2. I was very surprised and thrilled. My parents have always been really supportive of me and said as long as I did my best. It’s nice to know my hard work has paid off.’
