USQ Centenary suburbs bus service to begin
The University of Southern Queensland (USQ) has announced it will provide a student bus service from the Centenary suburbs to the Springfield campus via Wacol Railway Station from late February. Launched to coincide with O-Week activities at the campus the first scheduled bus run will commence in the last week of February and continue to operate during Semester one, including exam weeks. USQ Springfield Director Doug Fraser said if the service proved successful, it would be extended into Semester two. 'There will be up to four services a day, designed to coincide with class start and finish times,' Mr Fraser said. 'No services will be provided on weekend or public holidays. 'The proposed service route will include stops in Middle Park, Jamboree Heights, Mount Ommaney, Jindalee and Sinnamon Park. 'There will be numerous stops along the main roads with specific stops at Mt Ommaney shops and the Jindalee Homemaker Centre and DFO. 'Once the bus route, stops and timings are determined in detail, these will be posted on the USQ Springfield website.' Mr Fraser said the bus would make the university even more accessible by students in the Centenary area. 'Many students prefer to catch public transport to the university to cut costs and this service will make the commute from the Centenary suburbs much easier than it is currently. 'We are still finalising the cost of bus fares, but they will be competitive with other public transport. 'I hope the bus will be well utilised by students in the area so we can continue to provide the service in the coming years.' The bus will be available for use by USQ and Bremer TAFE staff and students only. During O Week and the first week of teaching in Semester one the bus will be operating free of charge.
