USQ student and
Chancellor’s Scholarship recipient Mark Murphy is determined to make a difference and leave his mark on the world.
Mark’s primary motivation for his university study is to help those afflicted by life threatening diseases and he believes his
Biomedical Science degree can help him achieve this goal.
'I have always had a thirst to learn and this was nurtured and developed throughout my primary and secondary schooling,' he said.
'I am very excited by the possibility that my University studies at USQ could help me to discover a cure for some or at least one of those diseases around the world that take the lives of many people too young to have yet experienced what life is all about.'
Awarded to only one student at each of the University's three campuses annually, the Chancellor’s Scholarship is given to a USQ student who has a proven academic ability together with leadership skills. USQ Chancellor Bobbie Brazil said that Mark was an ideal candidate.
“During my term as Chancellor I have taken a special interest in the students who receive this Scholarship and I never fail to be impressed not just by their scholastic excellence but also by their outstanding personal qualities.
“The student who receives this award must demonstrate strong leadership and have a commitment to their community and career goals and Mark has certainly shown this.
“Mark will be provided with financial support throughout his degree and continues USQ’s proud tradition of supporting students through our extensive range of scholarships.
“I am delighted that the Brazil Family is able to assist with their annual donation of 10 thousand dollars to the Chancellors Fund to ensure worthy students continue to receive the support they require.”
To celebrate Mark’s achievement and to raise funds for future Chancellor’s Scholarships, an annual
golf day run by USQ’s Corporate Club will be held at the Toowoomba Golf Club on Friday February 12.
