African Constitutional Court Justice to speak at Conference Dinner
A Justice of the Constitutional Court since October 1994, Mrs Mokgoro will address delegates on The legal position of women in the world today with specific reference to Africa: legal reforms needed. Conference Committee Chair Pauline Collins said it was an honour to have someone of Mrs Mokgoro’s credibility speaking at the dinner. 'We are absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to hear Justice Mokgoro. It is certainly a real coup for Toowoomba to attract such a high calibre speaker,' Ms Collins said. Appointed by Nelson Mandela to the country's highest judicial body in October 1994 Justice Mokgoro served as a Specialist Researcher (Human Rights), at the Centre for Constitutional Analysis at the Human Science Research Council. She is the current Chairperson of the South African Law (Reform) Commission and is also President of Africa Legal Aid, a non-governmental organisation, which provides legal aid and human rights education throughout Africa. 'This will be the first time Justice Mokgoro has visited Australia and provides a unique opportunity to hear from both a Judge and an educator from South Africa,' Ms Collins said. 'Dinner guests will hear her personal perspective concerning women's legal position from both a world and particularly South African viewpoint. 'Members of the public are welcome to attend this special dinner and enjoy a delicious meal, listen to the entertainment and hear Justice Mokgoro speak.' The unique sound of Australian band Jumping Fences will entertain guests on the night with their Latin American style music. A delicious three course meal will be provided by Encores Restaurant and lucky door prizes of perfume and cosmetics have been provided by conference sponsor Downtown Duty Free.
