The University recently held the Inaugural Executive Assistant and Personal Assistant Seminar at USQ Toowoomba.
Supported by the Vice-Chancellor and Human Resources, more than 60 EA’s and PA’s attended the half day event that was held with the aim of inspiring and encouraging the University’s Assistants.
A number of highly regarded and successful women spoke at the event including Janine Walker, the Director of Human Resources at Griffith University. Janine recently presented at the International Quality and Productivity Centre Executive Assistants and Personal Assistant Summit 2010, and was considered to be one of the standout speakers of the event. Janine gave practical advice on how to be an effective Executive Assistant within a University whilst maintaining a work-life balance.
Dr Janet McDonald also spoke at the Seminar. Janet is the Head of School of Creative Arts here at USQ and is an insightful, engaging and entertaining speaker. Janet is passionate about encouraging Executive Assistants and women from within the University to reach their full potential and provided those at the event with some tips and insights on how to advance their careers.
USQ’s Corporate Travel Manager Liz Newberry also presented during the seminar. Liz has been working at the University for more than eight years, and shared her insights on how to ‘say no’ to unreasonable requests.
USQ’s Chancellor, Mrs Bobbie Brazil also spoke during the event. The Chancellor has held numerous positions on councils and committees from ministerial to local level, and is a dedicated advocate for women’s development in the workforce. The Chancellor’s address covered a number of topics including resilience, attitude and self-belief.
‘I would just like to thank you for your organisation of the EA/PA seminar last week. It was good to see so many other staff at the seminar and the sessions were interesting and informative.’ Carmel Jerrems
‘Many many thanks to the Vice-Chancellor for supporting this event – it makes us feel valued and encourages us to continue to ‘fight the good fight’ in our daily tasks. I really can’t express how impressed I was with everything and how wonderful it is to catch up with you all face-to-face – instead of relying on emails and phones all the time.’ Ronda Eastall
‘It was wonderful to be able to have the opportunity to attend a PD event for EA’s’ Kyla Newman
