USQ will hold a special event at the Toowoomba campus this Saturday night (March 27) at 6:30pm to raise environmental awareness as part of Earth Hour.
Held annually, Earth Hour aims to encourage councils, households, schools, businesses and organisations to take practical everyday steps to reduce their ecological footprint.
Group Manager of Facilities at the University
Dave Povey said that as part of its involvement USQ will hold a special event in the Clive Berghofer Recreation Centre to countdown to the Earth Hour. The documentary film
An Inconvenient Truth produced by former US Vice President Al Gore will also be shown.
Mr Povey added that it was important the University joined the millions of other individuals and organisations around the globe to celebrate the event and to mark Earth Hour by raising community awareness of environmental issues.
'It is an opportunity for us all as responsible global citizens to show our support for the environment by way of the Earth Hour event on Saturday.
'It will also be a chance for USQ to demonstrate its clear commitment to greener sustainability measures that will see USQ achieve carbon neutrality by 2020.
'We are encouraging the public to get behind USQ’s Earth Hour event by switching off their power at home counting down the seconds at the Clive Berghofer Recreation Centre.'
