Faculty of Education adopt a family for Christmas
With Christmas just around the corner, the Faculty of Education will be helping to make one Toowoomba families festive season a little brighter.
Since 2006, The Faculty of Education have been involved in The Chronicle’s Adopt a Family for Christmas appeal. Coordinator Dr Marian Lewis said the annual appeal has become a regular event on the faculty’s calendar and receives widespread support.
'Taking part in the appeal each year is really quite a privilege and the spirit of Christmas certainly prevails. The generous response means that we can feel that we have been able to make a difference to at least some of the families in Toowoomba who are less fortunate than ourselves,' Marian said.
'This year the Faculty has agreed to support two families - one large and one small. This means collecting presents for quite a range of children and their parents, as well as putting together two hampers with foodstuffs and other Christmas things.
'The general Toowoomba campus community has also been invited to take part this. This is just to give an opportunity to anyone who may wish to contribute stocking fillers or food items.
'Initially, contributions were collected from all three campuses but this year for the first time, the Faculty of Education on the Toowoomba Campus is going it alone with other campuses focusing more on supporting their own communities. This seems an entirely appropriate step.
'The USQ Post office has generously agreed to support this wider appeal and is operating as a collection point with the collection box prominently on display.'
