In a landmark event more than 50 educators from a number of Queensland universities recently came together in a bid to develop a joint approach to education research and create stronger research networks.
USQ Engineering and Surveying Senior Lecturer Lyn Brodie said the event, organised by the USQ Engineering Education Research Group, gave academics interested in engineering education research the opportunity to gather together specifically to discuss future research opportunities.
'The symposium was a great success with 58 registered participants. The goal of the day was to form a network for collaborative research and many links were formed between academics at the represented university’s who had similar research interests,' Lyn said.
'This is a starting point for future research planning. The next meeting will be held in conjunction with the annual Australasian Association of Engineering Educators conference in Sydney where we will seek to further establish the network.'
Representatives from USQ, University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, Central Queensland University and the University of Sunshine Coast attended the event.
Lecturer in Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering, Steven Goh, said the meeting was extremely successful and plans have been made to meet again.
'The symposium was a great success and shows the leadership that USQ have shown to get the Who's of Who of Engineering Education Research in Queensland universities into one room. I had the opportunities to network with fellow researchers as well as meeting new acquaintance,' he said.
'Throughout the symposium, there were debates over a number of contiguous issues surrounding engineering education.
'There was collegial agreement to meet again at the AaeE Conference in Sydney and make it an annual occasion.'
