USQ Toowoomba undergoes $26 million face-lift
USQ Toowoomba is entering 2012 with a brand new look and improved facilities, with the campus receiving $26 million of construction work.
Manager of Planning and Space Simon Pearl said the University was pushing to get as many of its construction projects done as possible with minimal inconvenience to students.
‘Our priority right now is our campus hub project which is currently in stage four— the renovation of the refectory and kitchen,’ Mr Pearl said.
‘The next stage was rejuvenating the quadrangle, which was worked on during the semester break.’
Another big project is the recent refurbishment of the Faculty of Sciences.
Construction work started towards the end of last year on Level 1 and 2 of W Block, following the relocation of the Australia Post, USQ Bookshop and Print Express.
‘The refurbishment will provide modern teaching laboratories and equipment for undergraduate and post graduate students,’ Mr Pearl said.
‘The refurbished rooms will cater for the rapid increase in student demand for courses and programs in the areas of health and the human body.’
W Block’s target completion date is April this year, with D Block to be fully renovated by July and C Block by October.
USQ’s lecture theatres are also set for an immediate upgrade, including a major refurbishment of the Alison Dickson Lecture Theatre.
The world-class $3.6 million Toowoomba Regional Tennis Centre at the Clive Berghofer Recreational Centre has been a major project for the University and will be officially launched early this year.
