USQ and the Toowoomba Flexi School built on their strong relationship after donating funds to support the school in their ongoing operation.

The Social Justice Office made the donation to assist with the ongoing operation of the Flexi School and to assist them in providing food to their students.

Professor Peter Goodall, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Social Justice) at USQ said that the Flexi School provided a vital service and he was proud to continue to support them through the Social Justice Office.

‘USQ and the Flexi School have a long relationship and we are proud to able to assist them with this donation,’ Professor Goodall said.

‘The school provides a wonderful educational opportunity for young people in Toowoomba who otherwise would have struggled to finish school.’

Ms Maryanne Walsh, Principal of Centenary Heights State High School of which Toowoomba Flexi School’s is an official annexe, said the funds were important in offering students essential items.

‘Some of our students don’t have access to nutritious food due to their living conditions or other circumstances,’ Ms Walsh said.

‘This donation will go towards food for the students as sometimes the meal we provide them is the most substantial meal they will eat through the day.’

‘The staff, students and volunteers at the Toowoomba Flexi School greatly appreciate donations like this.’

The Toowoomba Flexi School provides a responsive learning environment with relevant educational opportunities that break the cycle of dis-engagement for enrolled students.

Josh, a student at the Toowoomba Flexi School said that school provided him with opportunities that he would not have received at other schools.

‘The school is very supportive to us and I am undertaking an electrical apprenticeship – something I would not have been able to achieve without their help,’ Josh said.

USQ has a long and ongoing relationship with the Toowoomba Flexi School and the Friends of Flexi Network, activities have included fundraising, volunteers and providing educational pathways to University.
