Professional Development Breakfast talks sustainability

USQ and the Faculty of Business hosted a successful public lecture entitled Sustainability:

Paradoxes and Practical Realities on Wednesday, August 25.

The lecture was part of the faculty’s professional development breakfast series and was attended by USQ staff and students; and staff and students from Toowoomba Grammar, St Saviours and the Agnew School.

Dr Geoff Slaughter, a Senior Lecturer in Accounting delivered the lecture outlining the economic growth and environmental implications that businesses and consumers must balance in the future.

Sustainability research, teaching and practice are important to USQ and many new programs are being offered in this area.

'Through the professional development breakfast series, we are looking to provide an opportunity to interested parties to see our areas of cutting edge teaching and areas of importance for the University,' Dr Slaughter said.

'USQ has developed some excellent sustainable business courses and this lecture was an opportunity for students and educators to see what USQ offers in this area and the possible employment opportunities that exist for students who study sustainable business.'

Associate Professor Jane Summers, the Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching in the Faculty of Business said that the series had been well received.

'The professional development breakfast series has been well received particularly by teachers who have been inspired by the topics and who are eagerly awaiting the next lecture,' Associate Professor Summers said.

The professional development breakfast series is held four times a year at USQ.

The next lecture scheduled to take place in early October where critical thinking and its development in students will be discussed.
