Hervey Bay High School students are on a winning streak.

The school has won the USQ Funny Business competition after recently taking out the 2011 Fraser Coast regional Science and Engineering Challenge.

The Funny Business team defeated teams from Maryborough and Yarraman in the annual contest run by USQ Fraser Coast’s Faculty of Business and Law.

Teams of Year 9 and 10 business students were required to develop their own businesses which they operated at their schools.

They were judged on their business plans and a presentation to the other competitors and a judging panel at USQ Fraser Coast on Tuesday, June 8.

This year’s winning team established a business called Get Shaky, which sold $3 milkshakes. It operated just two days and raked in a profit of $300.

USQ Fraser Coast Business and Law lecturer Graham Young said the teams had shown a high standard of business practices and executed their business plans very well.

'The Hervey Bay High team not only made an excellent profit, but also gave the best presentation we have ever seen at a Funny Business competition,' Mr Young said. 'All of the teams had impressive business plans.

'I loved the fact that the team from Yarraman State School donated some of their profits to charity (the RSPCA) and also contributed toward the cost of the bus trip to Hervey Bay for the competition presentation.'
