USQ alumni to debut ambitious theatre

USQ’s creative artists continue to succeed in a very difficult field as the production Furious Angels prepares for its premiere.

The team behind Furious Angels are predominantly USQ graduates with Mr Dave Burton, Ms Carley Commens, Mr Travis Dowling and Mr Daniel Mulvhill all having graduated from USQ in the last five years.

A curious aspect of this show is that these people did not study the same classes – or graduate in the same year.

'One of the many things that USQ instills in you is to network,' Ms Commens said.

'From our first classes we were told that networking was important and you can see that in the field.'

'No matter what year you’re in,' Mr Burton continues, 'USQ breeds an atmosphere of community that you carry into the industry.'

The play is a significant venture for those involved, proving to be a challenging and ambitious work that is reflective of that nations’ best cutting-edge theatre.

Furious Angels is a one-person work which examines the destruction of history and the monstrous nature of rationality in the 20th Century.

The contemporary theme of (particuarly masculine) mental illness, is explored in the play.

'Exploring this area is important and Furious Angels will definitely be something new for our audiences,' Mr Burton said.

'It was great to work with USQ graduates as we know the high level of training and professionalism we can expect from them. The skills that USQ gave us to be able to put on a production like this were priceless. The passion of our lecturers and the great student/staff ratio gave us an advantage in this field. It’s sure to be a wonderful show.'

Furious Angels will be showing at Metro Arts in Brisbane from 3 to 20 November (to book go to http://www.metroarts.com.au) and will show at Empire Theatre in Toowoomba on 25-26 November (ring the box office on 1300 655 299).
