For the next two days teenage girls from throughout Australia will be completing the Young Girls in Engineering and Surveying program at USQ.
This program commenced on Monday (July 5) and aims to give girls new experiences, a better understanding of what they want to do after graduating and a wider understanding of the different fields of science and surveying.
Two girls that have really enjoyed the experience are Acadia Lyons and Deone Winter.
Acadia travelled from Tamworth NSW to be involved and said she is interested Science.
‘I do a lot of Science at school so this program is perfect for me, I’m having a great time,’ Acadia said.
Budding engineer Deone travelled from Goondiwindi for the event and said she was enjoying the surveying activities.
‘I enjoy the structural design part of this program, the activities are informative and fun and the tutors are friendly and professional,’ she said.
The other girls were all of a similar frame of mind.
The girls will participate in a variety of activities that display both Science and Engineering.
Ranging from building bridges with straws to getting the gunk out of water all the girls involved had a great first day which highlights what a wonderful experience this program is for young women.
