USQ Toowoomba will host the 2011 Golden Key International Honour Society’s New Members Reception on Wednesday 5 October.
The Golden Key International Honour Society or Golden Key recognises excellence amongst university students from around the world.
Mr David Smith, Chapter President of the USQ Chapter said that membership in the Golden Key gave members academic recognition, professional advantages, and the opportunity to serve the wider community that they would not otherwise be exposed to.
‘We will be inducting 69 new members into the USQ Chapter of Golden Key at the ceremony on Wednesday,’ Mr Smith said.
‘We will also be honouring those who have had a significant impact of the region including the former Bishop of Toowoomba, Bishop William Morris, Queensland Police’s DC Ian Stewart, and USQ Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bill Lovegrove.’
The ceremony will commence with a ‘Welcome to Country’ by the Waldy Dancers who are soon to depart on a Toowoomba Regional Council sponsored cultural tour of Toowoomba’s sister city, Takatsuki Japan. A special cultural incentive will be awarded to Mr John Beattie of the Waldy Dancers to enable traditional ceremony to be understood and appreciated in contemporary society.
Additionally, awards and incentives will be presented to those who have shown outstanding academic and community contributions during their university studies or professional careers. Keynote speeches and presentations will be followed by a networking session after the ceremony.
‘We are seeking to boost the profile of the Golden Key at USQ.’
The USQ Chapter for the Golden Key is also increasing their activities so members can gain the most they can from their membership.
‘We have invited management and academics along with current students from USQ to enable them and to see what is involved in Golden Key and the advantages it can bring.’
The Golden Key Honour Society was founded in 1977 with the USQ chapter being formed in 2006. The Society recognises and honours academic excellence and service around the world. The top 15% of undergraduates in each faculty are honoured.
The ceremony will commence at 6:30pm on Wednesday 5 October in the Alison Dickson Lecture Theatre.
