USQ tops for jobs

 Open day
USQ received five stars from the Good Universities Guide
for positive graduate outcomes including employability of graduates

Graduates from the University of Southern Queensland have been rated among the most employable in Australia.

The Good University Guide, an independent publication that rates universities and private education providers across Australia, awarded USQ a five-star rating for its students getting a job.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Bill Lovegrove said the University's high-ranking in this particular sector is impressive given that employment rates across of the country are slipping.

He said he was particularly encouraged that Faculty of Education graduates were ranked among the top 25 percent nationally for employability; proof that the high practical component given to courses is being well received by industry groups.

With five stars being the very best, Professor Lovegrove said the University was also given top honours in the areas of access for equity groups, gender balance, and in the positive graduate outcomes it gave all its students.

‘I’m also delighted the University has been given the highest possible rating for indigenous participation, access by equity groups and gender balance.’

‘We have also been recognised with a four star rating for developing flexible enrolment pathways for our students, particularly for those coming from TAFE and for the number of international enrolments we attract.’

‘Over the past few years USQ has been working hard to allow a wider number of people to take up a university education and it was pleasing that these efforts were now being reflected in the feedback from students and from all levels of government.’

‘With a high percentage of our students from rural and regional Australia and with many being the first-in-family to enrol in a university degree it has been necessary to establish a broad range of teaching and support programs to help students successfully complete their degree programs,’ he said.

USQ also rated amongst the top nationally for its staff qualifications, placing the university ahead of some of the larger city based institutions.

Professor Lovegrove said that while there were still some areas for improvement in the types of research being undertaken more funding is being given to support specialist research activities and to provide staff with skills to carry out ground breaking research across the disciplines.

USQ was also recognised for its flexible delivery of its courses with the Good Universities Guide noting that all of its undergraduate degrees can be completed online.
