 University staff take to the road during the Intercampus Duathlon |
University camaraderie and campus loyalty inspired USQ staff to pound the pavement for the fourth annual Intercampus Duathlon.
The annual event on Sunday, May 23, was held at USQ Toowoomba and consisted of a 3km run, 12km cycle and another 3km run.
Teams and individuals from USQ’s Toowoomba and Springfield campuses represented their faculties, sections or campuses.
USQ Springfield Events and Student Experience Manager, Megan Axelsen, said this year’s event saw an increase in team participation, particularly from the corporate services in Toowoomba.
'There were three Toowoomba SRO teams, brightly dressed and enthusiastically cheering each other on, as well as three teams representing the financial services and a team from the Faculty of Arts,' she said.
'As the smaller of the two campuses, Springfield’s representation in the race was much smaller than Toowoomba’s. The team from Springfield did, however, manage to pick up three of the nine awards.
'This year was the first year the race was age handicapped, with individual competitors over the age of 35 receiving a time handicap.'
The winners of each category were:
- Faculty of Arts Shield – won by the Speed Machines Team of Toowoomba in a time of 58 minutes and 25 seconds;
- Faculty of Business Shield – won by Julia Gynn of Springfield, with a time of 66 minutes and 8 seconds;
- Faculty of Education Shield – won by Team Pain of Springfield with a time of 58 minutes and 17 seconds;
- Faculty of Sciences Shield – won by Ross Bool of Toowoomba, with a time of 49 minutes and 12 seconds;
- Corporate Services Shield – won by Dan McPherson representing Toowoomba Financial Services, with a time of 40 minutes and 58 seconds;
