USQ will host a number of events next week to celebrate International Women’s Day.
The global event, held annually on March 8, has been observed since the early 1900s and is designed to inspire and celebrate the achievements of women.
Thousands of diverse events are planned throughout the world, including political rallies, business conferences, government activities, local women’s craft markets and networking events.
USQ Women’s Network president, Associate Professor Lorelle Burton, said colleagues were invited to join in the celebrations based around this year’s theme, Women Leading the Way.
The first event will be held on Monday, March 8 at 5pm.
'We invite women to join us outside the front of B Block (at the top of the main driveway) for a half-hour walk around campus to promote work-life balance,' Associate Professor Burton said.
'On Wednesday (March 10), staff members are also welcome to join us at midday for a Defining your Career Path workshop, which will be held to help women at USQ establish their career goals and objectives.'
On Friday, March 12, a USQ Women’s Network lunch will be held in the Women’s Network Room in R Block. Guest speakers include Learning and Teaching Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lynne Hunt, and Human Resources Administration Associate Director Jane Farmer, who will be talking about women who have inspired them.
Colleagues can join the USQ Women’s Network by emailing ICT Services and asking to be added to our USQ Women’s Network mailing list.
