USQ Ipswich suburbs bus service to begin

New Ipswich bus route to USQ Springfield campus in 2012

USQ has announced it will provide a student bus service from Ipswich suburbs via Bundamba and Yamanto, direct to the Springfield campus from late February 2012.

Launched to coincide with O-Week activities at the campus the first scheduled bus run will commence in the last week of February and continue to operate during semesters one and two of 2012.

USQ Springfield Director Doug Fraser said there will be two services a day each way, designed to coincide with class start and finish times.

'No services will be provided on weekends or public holidays,' Mr Fraser said.

'The proposed service route will include stops in Bundamba, Booval, East Ipswich, the Ipswich city centre, Newtown, Silkstone, Eastern Heights, Raceview and Yamanto.

'There will be numerous stops along main roads including specific stops at Bremer TAFE, Booval Railway Station, Bell Street, Winston Glades and Yamanto Shopping Centre amongst others.

'Once the bus route, stops and timings are determined in detail, these will be posted on the USQ Springfield website.'

Mr Fraser said the bus would make the university even more accessible by students in the Ipswich area.

'Many students prefer to catch public transport to the university to cut costs and this service will make the commute from the Ipswich suburbs much easier than it is currently by providing an affordable, quick and single ride option for students.'

'The cost of the service will be subsidised so that it is kept to $2 for passengers using the pre-purchased bus ticket or $3 cash. During O Week and the first week of teaching in semester one the bus will be operating free of charge.'

'I hope the bus will be well utilised by students in the area so we can continue to proved the service in the coming years.'

The bus will be available for use by USQ and Bremer TAFE students and staff.
