USQ academic named ALTC Fellow

Dr Jacquie McDonald is an ALTC Fellowship
recipient

A USQ academic has this week been named a recipient of the prestigious Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) Fellowships.

Learning and Teaching Enhancement Senior Lecturer, Dr Jacquie McDonald, will be funded to develop research into revitalising learning and teaching through Communities of Practice (CoP).

This is the first ALTC Fellowship to be awarded to a USQ academic.

This fellowship builds on Dr McDonald’s CoP leadership role at USQ, which initiated an institutional model for engaging academic staff in situated professional development.

An action research approach will identify key aspects of the facilitator’s role and use the University’s multimedia capacity to create digital re-enactments to enable workshop critical analysis of the role.

Facilitator capacity-building will also include workshops by an international expert, Dr Milton Cox (Miami University, Ohio) and a facilitator’s start-up handbook. Activities will build on existing collaboration with Australian academics implementing CoPs and international CoP expert, Dr Etienne Wenger.

The ALTC Fellowships recognise outstanding leaders from universities across Australia who are constantly working to improve academic standards and the student experience.

Fellows will embark on a range of projects aimed at enhancing the university experience for local and international students in Australia.
