public lecture at USQ Springfield on August 14

A former Justice of the High Court of Australia the Honourable Michael Kirby will present a public lecture at USQ Springfield campus on Saturday, 14 August.

Mr Kirby will reflect on reforms he would like to see in Australia’s legal system and on his career and life more broadly.

USQ Law Lecturer, Associate Professor Anthony Gray said Michael Kirby’s lecture was a major coup for the University and an exciting opportunity for the legal and broader community.

'Mr Kirby is one of Australia’s greatest jurists and law reformers and his lecture will be both fascinating and inspirational," he said.

'He is one of the country’s best known judges and his judgements are well known to law students, scholars and teachers.

'He retired from the High Court of Australia, this country’s most senior court in 2009 after 13 years of distinguished service.

'Mr Kirby will also answer questions following the lecture,' he said.

Assoc Prof Gray said it is not very often the public get the chance to hear someone like Michael Kirby speak in person.

'We wanted to ensure this event was not just for the University and legal professionals, but a true community event.

'I encourage anyone who wants to attend to register their interest.'
