Celebrating learning and teaching
USQ's Learning and Teaching week is an opportunity to celebrate staff achievements
|
Celebrating staff excellence and showcasing exciting developments in teaching and learning practice will be the highlight of USQ's annual
Learning and Teaching week, which gets underway next Monday (February 1).
Held each year, the week also provides the opportunity to plan for professional development activities for 2010 and allows the University to focus on its learning and teaching achievements.
'This is a very important week for USQ and its staff as there is a lot of great work that is being undertaken in learning and teaching at the University,' Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching)
Professor Lynne Hunt said.
'In addition to this it is the chance for both academic and general staff to get an idea of the sorts of professional development opportunities that are available to them this year and encourages them to explore what is on offer.
'From working with the media to improving your ICT knowledge there will be a variety of sessions throughout the week for all staff.'
Two special visiting scholars will also hold sessions for staff with a specific focus on the media, with Professor Hunt saying it was a good chance to get a professional insight into the ins and outs of dealing with the media.
'We have Jacqui Elson-Green, who is the Director of Communication and Secretariat of the Australian Learning and Teaching Council who will talk about working with the media, which is very important for our academic staff.
'Jacqui has worked in the higher education sector for more than 20 years as well as working in a number of regional newspapers in Queensland and New South Wales and was also editor-in-chief of the Campus Review.
'Dr Robyn Smyth, who is an Academic Developer in the School of Rural Medicine at the University of New England will also be on campus during Learning and Teaching week.
'Her research is focused on the potential of rich media technologies to enhance interaction for distance learning in higher education, which is obviously very interesting for USQ with our terrific reputation for distance education.
'We are thrilled to have both Jacqui and Robyn here and we are encouraging staff to take part in these sessions.'
