The career and study options available to those interested in languages and travelling the globe will be the focus of a Modern Language Teachers Association of Queensland (MLTAQ) information evening at USQ tonight (Tuesday May 18).

Registrations are still being taken for the evening with around 120 high school students and USQ students expected to attend the evening, which will feature 15 guest speakers, including USQ graduates who are ‘living the dream’ overseas and in jobs they enjoy in Australia.

'These days there are many career paths available through languages,' Senior Lecturer in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Dr Ann Dashwood said.

'From working with the CSIRO and Trade Queensland to working as a language teacher there are different options.

'We will hear from representatives of those organisations that employ staff who have experience with another language but also from some of our former students including Rebecca Von Hoff whose German studies led her to a German Academic Exchange Service scholarship and she will talk about her experiences in Mitte, Berlin where she is currently located.'

The MLTAQ information evening will be held in USQ’s Allison Dickson Lecture Theatre from 7 till 9pm.

Those still wishing to attend are encouraged to contact Dr Dashwood on 4631 1806, or 0421 776 693.
