Unleash your creative side
Mandy Callow is calling on all closet poets to unleash their creative side and enter the
2011 USQ Library Poetry Competition.
The Toowoomba-based library coordinator says the competition has been run annually since 1994 and attracts a wealth of talent.
“There are poets from all walks of life who come out of the woodworks, including staff from Engineering and Sciences. There is an untapped well of talent out there!”
Mandy said the judges are always impressed with the quality of entries.
“A lot of people talk about personal issues – love, hate and death. They talk about things that really mean a lot to them.”
A highlight of the competition is a poetry reading session, where the winners are announced.
“It’s a really pleasant, lovely event and everyone is welcome. This year the reading will be held on Wednesday 7 September and, by attending, there is a chance to win one of two $20 Coles/Myer gift cards. Lunch will also be served.”
Entrants in this year’s competition also have the chance of winning a generous cash prize of $150 for first place, $100 for second place and $50 for third.
Poets are encouraged to
submit their entries online (limit of 2 entries per person) between Monday 18 July and midnight, Friday 26 August.
