USQ hosts international library conference

The next m-libraries conference
will be held in the UK in 2012

USQ recently hosted The third International m-libraries Conference in collaboration with The Open University, Athabasca University, Thompson Rivers University and Emerald Group Publishing. This is the first time the event has been held in Australia and highlights USQ’s strong partnerships with overseas universities.

First held in 2007, this year’s conference brought together researchers, educators, technical developers, managers and library professionals from more than 22 countries around the globe. The Conference explored and shared work carried out in libraries around the world, and looked at ways to share information in an increasingly mobile society.

USQ Professor Gilly Salmon was a keynote speaker at the event alongside internationally renowned speakers Stephen Abram, Dr. Mohamed Ally and Jessica Colaço.

USQ’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Learning) Professor Phil Candy said the conference was hugely successful.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my involvement in the Conference. I learned a lot, and got some important insights about mobile technologies generally,” he said.

The University also received positive feedback from a variety of delegates, including comments from Hassan Sheikh Head of Systems Development at The Open University in the UK.

“Well done all of you at USQ for organising a wonderful M-Libraries.”

Dr George Bradford from University of South Australia said he also thoroughly enjoyed the conference and found it informative.

“Great parallel sessions and very pertinent as lot of institutions are grappling with the idea of providing mobile information and how to upskill and motivate staff to make this happen.”

The fourth International m-libraries conference will be held in September 2012, and will be hosted by The Open University in Milton Keynes, UK. USQ will continue to participate in their role as an official partner.
