UK sustainability expert speaks to Chamber of Commerce

Dr Martin Blake

The Head of Sustainability for the United Kingdom’s largest employer will speak at an industry round table luncheon at USQ's Springfield tomorrow (Wednesday, 21 April).

Martin Blake, who works for the Royal Mail Group in London and is an Adjunct Professor at USQ’s Australian Centre for Sustainable Business and Development (ACSBD) will present an in-depth workshop style session for twenty members of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce.

Professor John Cole said members would be listening to a world leader in sustainability who would be sharing how he achieved outstanding results in his own organisation.

'Dr Blake has successfully reduced carbon and generated significant cost savings through his world-leading programs,' he said.

'This is no small feat considering The Royal Mail employs more than 175,000 staff, has 14,000 retail outlets and a fleet of 35,000 vehicles.'

Dr Blake is a sustainability expert with over 25 years experience developing strategic plans and influencing high profile stakeholders within governments, NGO’s as well as the postal, construction, healthcare, oil and gas sectors.

'In addition to his work for the Royal Mail Group, Dr Blake holds a number of leadership roles including working with the UN (UNITAR/CIFAL) and briefing European Parliament as well as Strategic Management Boards for the Carbon Trust,' Professor Cole said.

'He is a business leader with strategic vision and proven achievement in project management and organisational change programs. He has developed and successfully implemented several award winning programs.

'As part of his work for the Royal Mail Group, Martin has crafted a sustainability strategy covering areas of ethical supply chain, transport and fuel, building energy, water, and waste with clearly defined commercial imperatives linked to cost savings.

'He has ensured that the Royal Mail has addressed future risks and opportunities to be well placed ahead of the business competition and changing regulatory requirements.

'The experiences Dr Blake will share tomorrow will be invaluable to the business and government leaders in attendance and we are very proud to be able to provide them with this opportunity.'
