USQ’s Andrew Mason will be the MC of tomorrow’s
Mayoral Candidate breakfast at Picnic Point.

The University of Southern Queensland’s (USQ) Journalism discipline and the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be presenting Breakfast with the Toowoomba Regional Council Mayoral Candidates on Friday 10 February.

The usual Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI) Breakfast will be joined by Mayoral candidates Peter Taylor (current Toowoomba Mayor), Paul Antonio (Deputy Mayor) and Councillor Joe Ramia.

The candidates will be asked a series of questions from a panel of journalists, including ABC radio presenter Belinda Sanders, WIN TV journalist Daniel Sercombe and USQ Journalism lecturer and former APN News and Media journalist Rebecca Te’o.

USQ lecturer in Broadcast Journalism and event co-organiser Dianne Jones said the breakfast was a great way for people to see what each candidate has to say and to compare each candidate’s message and focus.

‘Each candidate will have a five to seven minute talk where they can speak about what topics they think are important to the Toowoomba region,’ Ms Jones said.

‘After that, the panel of journalists will be asking them questions and, time permitting, we will hopefully be getting questions from the audience.’

Ms Jones said the candidates will be outlining their visions for the Toowoomba Regional Council area for the next four years.

‘This forum gives voters the chance to hear each candidate’s vision for our community and what they see as the challenges and solutions,’ she said.

‘It will offer a rare opportunity for voters to see the candidates on the same stage and allow them to compare the candidates’ policies, personalities and qualifications.’

Visitors are encouraged to arrive at the breakfast at 6.45am for a 7am start this Friday.

Non-chamber members are invited to come along; cost is $40 for members and $60 for non-members.

Attendees must RSVP by 3pm Wednesday, February 8 by calling the chamber on 4637 9276 or by emailing info@toowoombachamber.com.au.
