USQ concert to raise funds for flood victims

The McGregor Summer School concert tonight will raise funds for the flood appeal
|
This week has seen some of the most devastating destruction witnessed in Toowoomba and on the Darling Downs for many years and USQ is extending its support to the various levels of government and the community in flood-affected areas.
As well as assisting with cleanup operations and other voluntary work, the University plans to donate all proceeds from tonight’s (January 13) McGregor Summer School evening concert to the Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal, to assist those who have been impacted by the floods.
McGregor Summer School coordinator Liz Newbury said the school’s 10-day program had run as usual this week, despite the recent events.
'Tutors and students are continuing to be productive with very little disruption to classes after Monday’s deluge,' Mrs Newbury said.
'Subject to conditions, students are due to leave the campus on Sunday morning as planned.'
The musical theatre concert will be held at the USQ Arts Theatre at 7.30pm, with patrons asked to make a minimum donation of $5 at the door, which will go to the Appeal.
A Gala Concert will also be held at The Empire Theatre on tomorrow night (January 14) from 7.30pm and can be booked through The Empire Theatre Box Office.
For any information on students and alternative arrangements should they not be able to depart from USQ as expected due to weather conditions, please contact the McGregor Schools office on 07 4631 2755.
